Scratch Looper Album incoming…

Hi there. So I’m still among the living for now. Trying to enjoy life. Still practicing scratching and making beats between working and sleeping. I need to get to the record shop and do some crate diggin’ to find some good music to sample for fun. That’s a pretty cool past-time for hip hop heads. I wish I’d known about the MPC in the 90s or Djing in general. I’d be so far along by now. Oh well, all things have their seasons in our lives. Right now is the season for music in my life, although I’ve always loved music, especially hip hop. I’m working on putting a Scratch looper beat album on my Bandcamp site. It’s almost ready and I’ll post a link to it on this site once it’s up. All the beats are ready to go, I just have to get the artwork/logo ready for it. You know as we move into the age of AI and robotics, people are going to have find a new grind to get cream to quote Wutang. Trying to become a Youtube persona or selling your creative works online is going to be a major hustle for people in the near future. If you can build a decent following on Youtube, you can make enough money from the ad revenue to sustain yourself. That’s not an easy thing to do, but plenty of people are doing it. Pretty soon all the manual labor jobs will be taken over by robots, so people better start using this whole internet thing to their advantage. Word to the wise. Take care!

Crazy times… DJ through it…

Man this COVID situation is getting very old. I enjoy working from home, and I’m glad that companies have gotten to see that people can work from home and productivity is not completely shot. They are still making money, people are a lot less stressed out from sitting in traffic to and from work also. I hate that people had to die for corporate America to realize this. Perhaps we’ll get a small reprieve of that type of stuff before they replace us all with AI and robots. That’s a whole different conversation, but DJing has gotten me through the pandemic seriously. I love scratching and love my music, so getting to jump on the decks at break time throughout the day (and sometimes not.. hehe) has been really awesome and takes my mind off things. I don’t understand how people go to work everyday and don’t have any type of hobby to do in their free time. I guess a lot of those people’s hobby is TV, but that’s a pretty sucky hobby. All TV is there for is to exacerbate consumerism, and sway the narrative of the mass consciousness. Yes there’s some cool dramatic shows on there, but what else comes with it makes me leave it alone entirely. I’d rather watch someone’s podcast on Youtube or watch someone DJ or play a game on Twitch. I have to remind myself to be content with my DJ setup and be grateful that I have it. There’s people out there who would love to have the turntables and mixer I have. They are on a DDJ-200 or something even lower than that. Gratitude is something that’s a huge part of our mission here in this lifetime. That and embracing love. I know I’m still working on both of those things, but I do see progress. I still hate driving and hate being in crowded stores, but I find I have genuine concern for my fellow man. I won’t go into examples because that’s between me and God, but I pray that everyone finds who they are and finds God so they can transcend and get off this rollercoaster called planet Earth. Heaven awaits….

DJ distractions…

Hey what’s up. So I’ve decided to try and eliminate as many distractions as I can when I start practicing after work. I want to spend as much of my free time as I can scratching, beat-juggling, mixing, and just working on my turntablism in general. Watching Youtube videos or watching people on Twitch is a tremendous time suck. It’s good for me to watch Youtube videos of DJs showing how to do certain techniques or watching Twitch sets to learn new transitions or ways of doing things, but watching videos about how we’re all going to die at the hands of the government or how every celebrity plays 2K with satan is a waste of my time. I very badly want to become a great DJ. Not to get rich, but just to do it. I like the craft and at a high level it intrigues me and satisfies something in my psyche. I want to get to that point and I know it’s going to take years of constantly doing it. After working in IT for 8 hours, I’m going to turn off my computer and just go in front of my decks and get busy until it’s time to go to bed moving forward. I think the angels have been trying to tell me that and I’m choosing to listen. Anyone that’s reading this just remember that to get better at anything takes time and pressure. By pressure I meant keep pressing on it. Keep doing it. Looking forward to getting elite. Take it easy….

MPC One and devotion….

Hey what’s the happs. So I picked up a MPC One standalone DAW around the time of the last stimulus. It’s really been a great tool and has me motivated to make beats and music a lot more than using a DAW on the computer. I have a couple of computer based DAWs, but I work in IT 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I get sick of “working” in front of a computer a lot of times. The MPC One doesn’t feel like sitting at a computer and it’s a lot of fun to use. The workflow is very easy to pickup and it’s very powerful in terms of what you can do musically. If you’re a person that wants to make music, but find you don’t like sitting in front of your computer to do so, I’d highly recommend picking up a standalone MPC. The One is affordable but if you can afford the X or Live 2 go for those as well. I also wanted to say that I’ve been slacking on this site a lot. I want to at least post every Friday and I want to get my reviews page up with more reviews of some of the products I’ve had first hand use of. I’m going to work on the site a lot more lately. I’m also going to try to advertise it on my Youtube videos more often as well. At least leave a link in the description section of the videos I upload. Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Been a while (Update)….

Hi reader. It’s been a while but I’m still among the living. I picked up a Phase wireless DVS unit as well as some Ortofon VNL needles. Both are pretty great and I am going to be putting reviews of each up on my Youtube channel pretty soon. I’m still scratching and getting better and better each day. I watch SI Hargreaves on Youtube and he posted a video about being musical with anything you use as a music instrument, including turntables. It’s better to not just scratch and go through every scratch you do, but build up the sounds and give the listener a pay off from the buildup. It’s kind of like when you’re mixing House music and there’s a great buildup section. If you let the drop hit hard from the same song or the incoming song, it’s dope and it’s a payoff the ear of the listener from that great buildup. However if you mix over to a breakdown, you’ve cheated the listener from listening to that great musical buildup and they didn’t get a payoff. I could make a sexual analogy as well but that wouldn’t be appropriate. Use your imagination. Anyways take care of yourself, stay healthy, take some vacation time off if you got it, and above all try to enjoy this short life we all have. L8r.

Scratching Update…

Hey what’s going on. It’s a late Sunday afternoon and I’ve been scratching all weekend. That’s pretty common for me these days. I don’t watch much TV unless you count Youtube clips and I prefer to spend most of my free time in front of my decks. I’m getting better and better and scratching. I heard DJ Babu say once that you want to get to 10,000 hours of scratching. I did the math on that and it would take about 3.42 years at 8 hours a day. I work full time so doing it 8 hours a day is kind of hard with work and other responsibilities. I get in the time when I can though and when most people are watching TV I’m standing in front of my decks. I wouldn’t trade it for the world and feel grateful to have the setup I have. I recently sold my Numark Scratch as I didn’t really use it much. I took the Innofader Pro I had upgraded it to out before selling though… hehe. I know a lot of DJs collect mixers but I don’t really see the point of that. I’d rather collect vinyl records, slipmats, and DJ needle carts. It looks like we’ll be getting the stimulus from the Feds pretty soon, so after I get some bills paid, I’ll have a bit of dough to spend. I’m probably gonna pick up a few albums off Discogs or something and call it a day. I was considering getting a Traktor Z2 mixer or a MPC One standalone sampler/DAW, but I have decided against that. I’d rather buff up my collection of music. I’m really dedicating myself to scratching and hope to look back to this date, 3/7/21, and be able to say I’m tons better a year from now. I’m definitely seeing progress so let’s get it! Take care and stay safe out there….

Updates and fader caps

Hey what’s up visitor! So I’ve still been djing all this time and I’m getting better and better at scratching. It’s a lot of fun and a very cool hobby. I like it a lot. Music moves me deeply and I love the drum. Scratching is like learning to play guitar or piano. You manipulate the pitch of the sound sample to make different sounds and vibrations of the tone. The more intricately and uniquely you can do that, the better it sounds.

I recently picked up some new slipmats. I bought some beatjunkies mats off someone online. They are great slipmats and work very well. I like them even better than my Dr. Suzuki Skratch mats. They work very well on their own and don’t need a slip sheet. Another thing I wanted to mention is that I’m noticing I seem to “scratch better” when using the Innofader fader cap as opposed to a fader cap I bought online. They are both plastic, but the size and feel of the Innofader cap feels better and makes me want to scratch as opposed to the other one which is kind of bleh. Maybe that’s me being weird or superstitious like a athlete with some weird pre-game ritual or a certain sock he’ll only wear when playing.

We’re still in the throws of a pandemic but hopefully we are on the tail end of it. Whatever “they” were testing and getting data on.. hopefully it’s over and we can get back to some normalcy. I don’t agree with taking a vaccine and wish everyone who does the best. My mother-in-law took it but she’s in her 90s. I pray she’ll be ok and everyone else who decided to trust the powers that be and take it. I don’t trust them as much given their track record, so I’m taking a wait and see approach. Best of luck to you reader and stay sane and safe!

Update after a while…

Boy it’s been a minute since I posted. We got a new president. We’re still kinda on lock down and the world has definitely changed a lot over the last year or so. People are dying from COVID for sure, but perhaps some are overreacting about it. A lot of us didn’t realize people die from the flu by the thousands every year. I know I sure didn’t know that. I hope we all make it through this COVID situation and come out to a better place in the world. Hopefully some people bettered themselves through this situation or found themselves. Some people didn’t make it due to COVID or taking themselves out and I feel for both. Life is not easy, but I pray if I’m ever in a situation where I feel I want to end my life, that I reach out to someone to get a different viewpoint on things. I know it sounds cliche but the sun will come up tomorrow. Always remember that. I do believe the creator understands the shortcomings of humans and would not banish someone for not being able to take the stresses of life anymore. On a lighter note, I have 2 DJ setups going in my living room now. One with my Numark Scratch and 2 Gemini decks, the other with my Reloop Elite and 2 AT 1240XP decks. Of course the Elite based setup is my main baby. Having a lot of fun learning to scratch and I’m finally making a breakthrough it feels like. I’m starting to “get” how you want to manipulate the pitch of the sound to get different sounds and make it sound cool. Peace and all that to anyone who reads this and take care of yourself. Cya….

Hip Hop Headz….

Alright, so I’ll take a break from the theory talk and too much seriousness. I wanted to write briefly about the current state of hip hop. The current state of hip hop has some conspiracy wrapped in it too ironically. You can’t get away from these topics wherever you look. So back in the Genesis of hip hop, emcees wanted to show how large their vocabulary was. How many similes and metaphors they could use. It was about storytelling with lyrics or even just educating with lyrics. I’ve heard rappers from that era talk about walking around with a Thesaurus so they could keep their wordplay sharp. We went from that, then in came the gangster rap. There came a group of young guys called NWA. Not all of them were really gang members or lived that life, but they certainly looked the part. They were rapping about a life in many ghettos around the country and it was captivating to a lot of people. Once the industry saw how well that type of music sold, they started putting more acts together that approached hip hop in that way. A lot of the guys they found were fake gangsters, and hadn’t gang banged a day in their life, but again they looked the part and were good talkers, so people bought it. Around that time, there were some conscious rappers like Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, and lesser known atists like Shabazz the Disciple but that style of rap generally wasn’t in the main stream at a certain point. There are people that say that gangster rap was ushered in as an effort to further corrupt the minds of the people, especially young black people. There’s a lot of compelling evidence on that topic. Professor Griff’s book “The Psychological Covert War on Hip Hop” is probably the most notable work tackling that subject. Even with gangster rap, lyrics had remained a part of the craft although they were often vulgar and profane. Fast forward to the hip hop of today, and much of the lyricism has been lost. There are rappers in mainstream now that have no talent and are not skilled writers or wordsmiths. They call some of it mumble rap, and that’s exactly what they do on a track. Back in the early days, a rapper had to spend time writing in his or her rhyme book, then from there you had to pay a lot of money to get studio time to work with someone to make a decent beat for you and to record a demo tape or any tracks at all. These days, a $300 laptop is capable of running a music creation program that would allow a wanna-be rapper to make beats to their hearts content. Not only that, but people with actual talent, who may not be well known, are able to make beats and distribute them on the internet for low prices, whereby these mumbling rappers get ahold of it and mumble over it. There’s a current rapper that’s well known that got “discovered” on Soundcloud with a song or two he made and put up there and that got traction. The young kids of the day listen to the music and they even say they don’t care about the lyrics, they just like the beat. There’s a whole science behind that statement, but it has to do with the dumbing down of people gradually from the food we eat, the things we see, and the music we hear. When I was young and also at this age, even though Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Jefferson Starship, Lisa Stansfield and other people weren’t necessarily from my generation, I still had the ear to recognize it as “good music”. Some young people listen to Nas or Mos Def and think it’s trash music. They have no ear for music. Music on a whole has taken a huge step back, and the amazing talents of Mo-Town and yesteryear seem to not be the music stars of our current time. People with a good “look” and a large marketing machine behind them rule the airwaves today. That’s my humble opinion on that. I love music, but most of the new music that comes from newer artist isn’t worth the time of day. Til next time….

A Gray State

You should check out the movie “A Gray State” on Netflix. It’s more of a documentary about a movie that was to be made. As you watch it, look at what a huge snowjob it is. That young guy, was a born leader, extremely organized, had military training, knowledge of Agenda 21 and NWO initiatives, and was motivated. He was a very big threat to the plans of those in the shadows. Do they really expect us to believe that 2 grown adults both “went crazy” and killed themselves and their daughter? You know that scene with his “father” who played the video of the guy AND his wife talking cryptically about some entity they’d encountered gave everything away. Now either that was fake, which is why the camera was pointed at a lamp the entire time, or it was real, and those people were being affected by mind control. There was another video they showed where it seemed as though the mother was talking about hearing a voice or entity in the home. I posted already about MK Ultra and mind control.. that’s very real. They can make people do things by convincing them they are interacting with a deity or supernatural force that has their interest at heart. The fact that they tried to make it seem as though both adults had lost their mind is really the trigger here. Sure there are instances when mold spores, or something they both were eating at dinner, could have caused psychosis in them, but pull back and look at the big picture here. You have a young, militaristic, perfectionist, leader of a young white guy who is making a film about the impending doom of people in society. He’s putting all the pieces in place to get the film worked out and is succeeding. All of a sudden him and his wife apparently kill themselves and their 5 year old daughter whom they love very much? That doesn’t make sense. There is obvious foul play involved and it’s unfortunate that the guy and people don’t investigate further the weapons used against people. They may have been mind controlled. Guard your mind and guard yourself. The Hermetic Prophecy does talk about God ridding the world of evil, but God works through people on this earth. Be his instrument in whatever way you can. You are not superman or superwoman, but do your part to bring good in.
