So we had to put our dog Maggie to sleep this past Monday. It was really difficult, and I’m still not feeling well about it. We had her for about 13 to 14 years and she was a part of our life on a daily basis. I walked her at least twice a day every day and she was such a big personality in the house. When I got her from the pound so many years ago, there was a note on her cage saying that the previous people brought her BACK to the pound after getting her because she barked too much.
That was very true about Maggie. She loved to bark…at people, other dogs, us, you name it haha. She was a great guard dog though, and she always alerted us when a package was being dropped off at the door or if someone was there close to it. I miss hearing her bark and I miss her presence in the home. Whenever we came home she greeted us at the door. She was always so excited and happy to see us.
She started having seizures about a month or two ago, and it progressively got worse as time when on. She lost a lot of weight to where she was skin and bones. She wasn’t her old self and we knew it was time to let her go. I pray to GOD that her animal spirit is happy and in a better place right now. I pray she is with GOD and the angels now and driving them crazy with her barking and endless energy. Maggie was a great dog and she’ll definitely be missed. I have a lock of her hair that the vet gave us before they put her to sleep. I’ll hold onto it until the day I die, because I don’t ever want to forget that dog.
She was a pleasure to have rescued from the pound, and she really made life interesting and enjoyable for the time she was with us. I hope we enriched each others lives as much as I think we did. RIP To Maggie, you will always be loved in the Harris household. L8r
