So I’ve reviewed my first DJ decks, the Gemini PT 2000 IIs on here, now I’ll review the decks that replaced those as my main decks. The Audio Technica 1240XP is the top tier turntable that Audio Technica offers. There’s none above it and a tier below is the 140XP deck. The 1240 is a super OEM turntable and this model works great. It’s well built and sturdy. The design of it makes for great feedback reduction. There’s some rubberizing on the bottom and under the platter that helps with that. The motor is very powerful and you can adjust the start and stop time of the deck with dials on the face of the turntable. It also has Ultra-pitch capability, and can rotate at 33,45, and 78 rpm. Top that off with Quartz lock and a reverse button and it’s easy to see why this is a full featured DJ turntable. Suckers are marks for brand names and swear by Technics 1200s which are outdated and overpriced at this time. Technics has long been equaled if not surpassed by rival companies making turntables, but people still parrot the idea that they are the best turntables. They are not and if you pay $500+ for a old 1200mk2 or $1K for one of the newer mk7s you’re foolish. I’d put my 1240s up against any Technics in terms of performance and they come in a lot cheaper for a brand new deck. I can’t state how annoyed I get when I see people tell new DJs to invest in a used 1200 when there are better priced, better performing super OEM decks out there on the market that are brand new. I state my case on different forums and groups whenever I can, but it just goes to show that people are suckers for a fad or what somebody else says. It’s the reason there’s a line a block long for average hot dogs outside of Pink’s in LA. It’s the reason people will wait in line to buy an axe with the word Supreme written on it. I digress. The 1240XP is a great turntable and buying a pair will set you up real nice with your DJ setup. Pair them with a decent mixer and you’ll be ready to rock your bedroom, a bar, a club, or an event with no problem. Check them out on Sweetwater.com or Amazon.com and grab yourself one if you’re in the market for a new deck. Whatever you do, don’t get suckered into buying a Technics unless it’s sub $300. Take it easy!
